Unformatted text preview: Harry Truman (Democrat 1945-1953) He became President when FDR passed away on his fourth term. He was not much of a global figure so people first asked who is this guy Truman? They thought he was an ignorant from Missouri who didnt know anything about the world. He fooled them however. Harry Truman was a Farmer and a Business man before he got involved in politics when he was in his 50s. He was plain spoken, blunt he was a good leader and he had common sense. He had the ability to make politically controversial decisions he thought were right. After taking the oath he was told almost immediately about the Manhattan project and now he faced the most consequential decision a president or any leader has ever had to make, the choice of dropping the first Atomic bomb. On May 7 th 1945 the war in Europe was over but Japan was still a threat and the estimates if we went in there of deaths were anywhere from 10 million to 50 million. It was a clear cut decision in his Missourian common sense mind that in order to save so many casualties...
