Why is it easier to balance a spinning basket ball on your finger than a spinning baseball?(2pts) When you spin a ball it has angular momentum around an axis. H = Iw. The advantage of spinning a basketball can be found in the inertia part of the equation. Inertia is I=mk 2 . The basketball has a greater radius and mass and therefore a greater moment of inertia which means a greater ability to resist changes in angular motion. Having a larger inertia will increase its stability because angular momentum is axis specific. The angular momentum will also be increased with a larger diameter which means a larger force that needs to be overcome to stop it from spinning.
