Nova Wang 903771299 Life Sciences 2 Section 1D Daniel Whittaker January 11, 2011 Memory and Marijuana Use Research Proposal Over the last century, recreational marijuana use in America has become popular to people of all ages and demographics. People usually smoke marijuana in order to feel the euphoric effects of the active ingredient tetra-hydro-cannabinol. With the economy at an all-time low, talks of legalization of marijuana have arisen and it is important that people know what the side effects of marijuana are. Many people assume that marijuana has long term effects of memory loss and moderate brain damage, but these assumptions are generally made without any proof or evidence. Proper scientific experiments must be made so we can see if there is truly a correlation between marijuana use and impaired memory. In Ilan, Smith, and Gevins’ study published in Psychopharmacology (2004 Nov) , patients that were currently under the influence of marijuana had “difficulty maintaining a coherent train of thought” because part of the
