Michael Short 1-10-10 Geography 5 Assignment #1 For this weeks reading assignment there were two articles. The main topic of the first article is based on the ways in which people view the environment and the role of the environment differently. The article goes into specific details when discussing certain religions i.e. Christianity, Buddhism etc. Within the areas of religion the article examines how each religion holds either econcentrist or anthropocentrist ideals. Judeo-Christians are thought to have more of a utilitarian perspective towards nature. This thought comes from their interpretation of the creation of the earth. On the final day it is said that god created man to, “have dominion over the fishes of the sea and the fowls of the air, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping creature…” Using this philosophy it is clear that men are to conquer nature and rule over it.
