Michael Short 01-17-10 Geo 5 Week 3 Reading This week there were multiple readings, but the two that seemed most relevant were Cronon’s “The Trouble With Wilderness” and Waller’s “Getting Back To The Right Nature” which was a response to Cronon’s article. In Cronon’s article he goes through various ways in which humans and society view wilderness and argues against these views. Waller’s article attacks different points brought up by Cronon in his article, which is solely based against Cronon. The arguments range from what should be considered wilderness to the differences between wildness and wilderness to how humans should interact with wilderness. Cronon argues that wilderness is not simply national forests and parks that are preserved and for the most part untouched by man. He brings up the question of why humans see trees in a forest as a romantic wilderness, while that same tree in a garden tended to by man is not considered wilderness and is not revered with the same awe and
