This article discusses the beginnings of the riots. It discusses how the altercation between the African American man being arrested for drunk driving develops and how his mother became involved. It then gives statistics for the first night of rioting. The article speculates on whether or not there will be continued rioting and how the police plan to handle continued rioting if necessary. This article reveals the one opinion of the riot by the newspaper at the time. It is clear that the newspaper's only real resource for information is what the police have to tell them and obviously the police would not want this to reflect poorly on them. In that aspect this piece is extremely opinionated. Through this article it is apparent that the newspaper has a dominantly white subscribers list as it labels African-Americans as Negroes and speaks of them as if they are separate from its
