Briefly discuss the pros and cons of the Three Gorges Dam or dams in general, and argue either why you think it was a good idea for China to build the dam or why do you think it was a bad idea. Dams in general have been a controversial form of renewable energy since their beginnings, but the world’s largest dam, the Three Gorges Dam, has been placed under a microscope of criticism. Condemnations for dams typically consist of factors such as, destruction of landscape and animal habitat, the displacement of entire villages and even cities, and as the direct causation for specific natural disasters, i.e. landslides and soil erosion. For a dam like the Three Gorges Dam the complaints are pretty similar, but on a scale tremendously larger than dams of the past. Just as the negative impacts mentioned are greater with the Three Gorges Dam, the positive impacts are much greater as well.
