Michael Short 10-06-09 Interracial Dynamics Discussion Reading Form 1 Africa and Africans in the Making of the Atlantic World, 1400-1680 1. The author of the text was John Thornton. He writes about the 16 th , 17 th , and 18 th centuries and the slave market in those times, but from a modern perspective and using modern knowledge. There are a few hazy areas and time periods in his writing when he and other histories are unsure about what happened. The writing is historical and there is not much room for interpretation in the text. 2. The topic of the text is to explain the process of how slave trade in Africa, primarily on the African coast evolved over time.
