Page 3The SyllabusCC313 /CC314 Project Formulation/Project Design & ImplementationDescriptionThese units will provide the student with the opportunity to do a major computing projectwhich will result in some kind of computing product. It is ‘major’ in the sense that it is ofsignificant sizeandintellectual challenge. Topics for projects may be suggested by thestudents and perhaps may derive from industrial placement experience. Academic staff mayalso suggest suitable topics for selection by students.The student will be provided with a supervisor for this project. This person will provideguidance during the project period on the progress of the work, the direction of the study, andthe quality of work carried out.AimsThese units are designed to provide an opportunity for the expression of individual energyand ability in completing a significant item of work related to the aims and objectives of thecourse.Learning OutcomesOn completion of this unit students should be able to:1.Construct a problem statement working from unstructured ideas;2.Plan, schedule, monitor and control the conduct of a small project;3.Apply some of the tools and techniques developed during the course;4.Critically evaluate the project work;5.Communicate the findings of a small project by verbal presentation / demonstrationand written report.Course OutlineDuring the first half of the first semester student will produce a Project Proposal document,which will summarise what the project is all about. The supervisor and a second marker willgive you some feedback on the Project Proposal so that it can be revised if necessary. At theend of the first semester student should submit to the supervisor a project proposal report.
