Ammons 1 Krista Ammons English 101 October 10, 2003 Advertising Sex It is the twenty first century and our generation has become one that can not be explained. The advertisers have become grotesquely obsessed with “selling sex” to their audience. The public can not control what these advertisers are putting on display for themselves, friends, or family. Advertising although it can contribute, is not at the heart of sexism in our society. The way parents act in front of their children, as well as, television programs, and movies should be responsible for the sexism that has developed. The advertisers can not be held responsible for the way the public perceives there promotions. An article in the News Sentinel stated, “Parents should not hide from sex selling articles, they should explain to their children what these articles are saying and how they should act differently from the ads they are seeing.” Although advertisers have become extremely risqué and are taking sex too far in there promotions, we, the public, should not be upset. We should not be upset because the public is still consuming these “sex sold” products. Advertisers do not teach sexual acts or sexism, it is a learned behavior seen on
