Cultural 5. Environmental 6. Socioeconomic Weight Management Essential Fat: Fat that is essential to the normal function of the body. Heart, brain, lungs, liver, nerves and other body parts. Essential fat for men: 3% Essential fat for women: 12% Weight Management Essential body fat for women: Sex-specific Breast Uterus Energy requirements of pregnancy and lactation. Weight Management Storage Fat: Fat in excess of essential fat. Determined by such factors as: heredity, age, and metabolism. Primarily influenced by diet and activity level. Results in potentially dangerous conditions; overweight, overfat, and obese. Weight management The normal amount of body fat differs for men and women. Men 18% - 23% Women 25% - 30% Obesity for men would then be 25% + Obesity for women would then be 30% + Approximately 33% of US adults are overweight, 34% obese and 6% morbidly obese....
