Robin Singh 8/31/11 Hey Guys, just to clear up the confusion on quantum numbers I have created a summary page to hopefully clear everything up: n - this is the principal quantum number also known as the (shell #) - the values of n can be (1…to infinite) l - azimuthal number which tells information about the (subshell ) -when l equals…0 it means the electron is in the S subshell 1 it means the electron is in the P subshell 2 it means the electron is in the D subshell 3 it means the electron is in the F subshell **l can have the values (O….n-1)** m l - the magnetic quantum number or orientation in space which gives information about the (specific orbital). It can have the following values of (-l….+l) m s - spin quantum number (+1/2 or -1/2) This will tell u about the l quantum number as you can see I put where respective subshells are in regards to the periodic table.
