Timothy Nguyen Mr. Stringer English 1301 September 18, 2011 Discourse Community Analysis 1. My chosen discourse community is soccer. Gymnastic was my life in first and second grade. I was slowly getting bored each week. I kept pleading with my parents to let me quit because it was not for me. It was not until my dad took my sister to register for soccer at our church camp. Therefore, the both of us were registered to start playing soccer. 2. Since the moment I stepped onto the field with my brand new cleats, shin guards, and soccer ball, I knew I was born to play. This sport showed me a new world of which I was now a part. I was allowed to let go of everything I had and just run and take out any stress I had on the soccer field. I instantly fell in love with the sport and I met many amazing people who have been in my life throughout the years. 3. I was overwhelmed with the rules and certain concepts of the game at first. Red cards, yellow cards, offsides, and fouls are just a few terms that I needed to learn and master at in order to succeed on the field. Also, I learned how to correctly kick, steal, and score during the game, and this took months to master. 4. Since that exciting, yet tough, first season of soccer, I have made it through high school playing on both the junior varsity and varsity soccer teams. I have gotten better and better throughout the years, learning new skills and mastering the old ones. I am able to communicate with soccer fans, coaches, and players all over the country and the world. It truly has made a big difference in my life by deciding to register for soccer....
