Tengonciang Department of Physical Sciences University of the Philippines, Baguio Sedimentary processes Erosion The abrasion and displacement of earth materials by flowing air, water, or ice 1. Detachment separation from source (through weathering) 2. Entrainment lifting by agent of erosion 3. Transport particle movement, dependent on velocity of medium dependent on particle weight, size, shape, surface Depends on velocity and turbulence of transporting medium Laminar flow fluid flows slowly, fluid particles travel in parallel layers Turbulent flow fluid velocity increases, movement becomes erratic and complex, giving rise to swirls and eddies
