Introduction: In Lab Skills and Safety on September 27 th , we were assigned the project to design a structure that spanned a 12 inch gap to be tested on the 60,000 pound Baldwin testing machine. Objective of the project: The structure was to be made up of one 1” x 2” x 14” clear Redwood, one 2” x 14” 20 ga galvanized sheet metal, two 6” zip ties (generally used for wrapping wire bundles), one piece of36” nylon bailing twine, and four jumbo paper clips. We were able to cut and put the items together in the manner that we chose. We were also able to use extra fasteners and assembling material such as glue. The design was supposed to hold a vertical load, applied by the machine in the middle of the design. Our objective was to build the strongest bridge in the class. Procedure: 1. Receive supplies from Dr. Wiesenberger 2. Develop a plan on paper of what our design would look like. 3.
