Kerilyn Ambrosini Professor Shultz COMS 101 3/6/11 Self Evaluation Viewing videotapes of myself delivering speech was the most effective way to improve my speaking skills. Throughout the quarter, I reviewed my speeches and saw what I could change. In this paper, I will discuss each speech, the good, the bad and the ugly. The very first speech I gave was a storytelling speech about my father. The story was quite extraordinary and interesting, but I should have told it with more finesse. My speech pattern was choppy and that made it difficult to follow the entire story. I needed to work on my diaphragmatic breathing so that could smooth out my speaking. I should have gotten more into the story while avoided extraneous gestures. My hands tended to bounce with every syllable that I said. I took note of this and tried my best to leave out those physical distractions from my next speech. My second speech was about my definition of rural and the country life that I lived for 18 years.
