Glial Cells: provide scaffolding to guide growth of developing neurons and support mature neurons, wrap around neurons to form insulations, and release chemicals that influence a neuron’s growth and function. b.ii. Neurons: brain cells with two specialized extensions, one is for receiving electrical signals, and other is longer extension for transmitting electrical signals. b.iii. The human brain can not generate cells or neurons fast enough to keep up with a disease like Alzheimer’s. c. Brain Vs. Mind c.i. Mind Body Question: asks how complex mental activities, such as feeling, thinking and learning can be explained y the activities of the brain. II. Neurons: Structure and Function a. Cell Body: a large egg shaped structure that provides fuel, makes chemicals, and maintains the entire neuron in working order. b. Dendrites: branchlike extensions that arise from the cell body; they receive signals from other neurons, muscles or sense organs and pass the signals to the cell body. c. Axon: single threadlike structure that carries signals away from the cell body to neighboring neurons, organs, or muscles. d.
