Alyssa Arvin Tony Atchley Emily Anderson English 134 Fall 2008 Professor Garner November 6, 2008 Animal cruelty has many names and faces in society today. Every person has a personal opinion in deciding the difference between what is cruel and what is necessary. In food production the amount of cruelty is kept at a minimum but it still happens in cases all around the country. The abuse in the standard process by which animals are subject to is overall at a minimum, yet cruelty still exists in some forms but it is ruled as a necessary thing in order to ensure the survival of human beings over animals. The methods that they use to kill the animals are not cruel but instead fast and effective. In order to ensure that they can slaughter as many animals as necessary, they have a quick procedure. Once the animal is received, they hold them in holding pens until they are ready to slaughter them. They shock the animal either with 300 volts and 2 amps of electric shock to the back of the head or by using a captive bolt pistol to the front of the animal’s head. Once the
