Anthony Atchley 10/4/11 BRAE 312 Lab 2- Pressure Measurements 1) HGL Demonstration: In this demonstration a pressure measurement was taken by the classroom at the water facility and then another at the buffer reservoir. At the reservoir, being that it is a free water surface the pressure is 0 psi. From these two points one can draw a hydraulic grade line that shows an energy relationship using the two points of pressure and elevation. The group was able to able to record two pressures on the meter where one was with one pump running and one with two pumps. Below are the data and HGLs.

2) Cavitation Demo: Cavitation is the separation of air and water in a pump or pipeline usually due to the vacuum created when closing a valve too quickly or when lifting water out of a reservoir which is the case of the demonstration. When lifting water out of a pipeline there are many things that will resists the upward flow such as elevation energy, pipeline friction, the pipe inlet being plugged and the energy needed to get
