Compare and contrast two change theories, and determine which theory makes the most sense for implementing your specific EBP intervention. Why? Has your preceptor used either theory or to what result? Change occurs inevitably. The healthcare field is constantly changing with emergence of new disease processes and treatments. As a result, organizations in the medical field must adapt to respond to these changes as well. Sometimes what worked in the past does not work at all or is not as effective as it used to be. Many change theories have been developed to explore this phenomenon in diverse organizational settings. The compare and contrast are between the Lewin three step change theory and Lippitt Phases of Change theory. Lewin’s theory proposes that individuals and groups of individuals are influenced by restraining forces, or obstacles that counter driving forces aimed at keeping the status quo, and driving forces, or positive forces for change that push in the direction that causes change to happen. The tension between the driving and restraining maintains equilibrium. Changing the status quo requires organizations to execute planned change
