September 17 th 1978: Israel and Egypt sign a first historic Arab- Israeli peace treaty at Camp David. Sadat, Begin and Carter March 26 th 1979: the Peace Treaty is ratified by both parliaments and is formally signed in Washington May 25 th 1979: Israel begins withdrawal from the Sinai Complications and Challenges for the First Peace : March 31 st 1979: Egypt is expelled from the Arab League, and five weeks later from the Islamic Conference June 7 th , 1981: Israel destroys the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osirak October 6, 1981: Sadat is assassinated in Cairo. Mubarak becomes the new president December 14, 1981: Israel annexes the Golan Heights June 6 th , 1982: Israel invades Lebanon in Operation Peace to the Galilee
