Soliloquy, Aside, Monologue Soliloquy: Device within dramatic performance when character speaks inward thoughts alone on stage to audience. In Shakespeare, usually in verse. Aside: Private interjection, not heard by other characters on stage. Monologue: A speech by a character that directly addresses the audience and other characters: not an inward, private speech.
