For the FINAL EXAM, Jacobean Shakespeare Our final exam will be held on Monday, May 09, 2011: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM, in our normal room in Scott Hall. Please do not come late: you may miss vital instructions. Please be sure to bring extra pens or pencils, and a bag in which to put everything other than your writing utensils. Be sure to turn your cell phone off and put it away . All cell phones and other electronics may not be within sight during the exam. Please note: For the exam, each question will be accompanied by a series of passages that you should draw from in answering the question. You may, of course, draw from other passages or moments in the play from your memory, but you will want to take advantage of the specific passages provided in the exam as well. Please note: Graduating seniors and those with special needs (on academic probation, for example) will be graded first. If you are graduating or have special needs, please mark this on your blue book and place your exam in the specially marked box. The directions for Part Three of the final will look like this, except that TWO of these topics will not appear: Part Three: 45 minutes. Choose one of the following topics, and write a clear, well-managed essay on them in which you demonstrate the range and depth of your understanding of the plays and of the topic. Your essay should be at least 5 exam pages long. Topics: 1. Othello and Winter’s Tale: Tragedy vs Tragicomedy. Othello and the Winter’s Tale have deep stylistic and narrative connections. This topic invites you to explore their relationship in any way you choose, but since Othello is often thought to be the perfect Aristotelian
