Asha Bazil Social Psychology Section 12 Research Methods Article Analysis and Critique 9/7/2011 (1)This research study was guided by the concepts of social rejection, prosocial behavior, emotional responses, empathy, delayed gratification, and isolation. (2) The main hypothesis of the study was that after experiencing social exclusion, subjects would be less likely to participate in pro-social behavior, reflecting their fear of being taken advantage of and a decrease in empathetic emotions. (3) The results of this study showed a significant decrease in the amount of prosocial behavior exhibited by excluded persons, just as the hypothesis predicted. In experiment two specifically, members of the socially rejected group were much less likely to volunteer their time to help the experimenter, thus indicating that they, A. did not feel empathetic towards the experimenters needs, and B. did not want to remain in the environment in which they had just been excluded. (4) The independent variable was which group the participant was placed in: the socially excluded or the socially included. In experiment two, participants were either told they
