Rel A 212 – Terms/Concepts/Places/People to know for Midterm Exam #2 Romans - Philemon Thursday Nov. 10 - Monday Nov. 14 (late day) Terms/Concepts Justification - Redemption is the gift of forgiveness. Comes from justification through faith Sanctification - The process of becoming free from sin, pure, clean, and holy through the atonement of Jesus Christ Predestination - Romans 8:28-29; 9 Pre-destination means no matter what you do you will be either saved or burned (depending on what God has chosen for you to do). Foreordination - means you are assigned something, but it is your choice to do it or not Diaspora/Dispersion - The scattering of Israel; dispersion of the Jews New Testament ” - New covenant, established to replace the Law of Moses Circumcision - sign of the covenant under the law of Moses, a metaphor for the law Grace - The enabling power from God that allows men and women to obtain blessings in this life and to gain eternal life and exaltation after exercising faith, repented, and giving their best effort to keep the commandments. It is through Christ’s grace that we are saved Faith - Hope for things which are not seen. Relevance to Romans: faith is kindled through good works. Resurrection - The reuniting of the spirit body with the physical body of flesh and bones Scribes/Letter Writing - Galatians 6:11 Thorn in the Flesh ” - 2 Corinthians 12:7, Galatians 4:13-15 ( eyes) It is possible that Paul’s thorn was bad eyesight, he was probably close to being blind. Charity - greatest spiritual gift, gives meaning to everything else 1 Cor. 13 (here he said that a better translation was love) Fruit of the Spirit - Galatians 5:22 Gnosticism - 1 Timothy 1:4 Paul warns Timothy about this in 1 Timothy 6:20.
