START HERE LEARNING ABOUT THE COURSE in WebCT This is the introductory section of the course – much like the first meeting of a face- to-face class. The section covers how the course is organized and how to utilize various tools. SUGGESTION: Print out this step-by-step guide so you can refer to it with ease. HOW THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED: The “buttons” down the left side of the WebCT screen indicate the topic contained in that section. After reading this “ Start Here ” section, you should go to… The syllabus is the guide for how the class will progress. It is laid out by the number of weeks in the class. This schedule is both a “ guide and a “ must do ” list to help students stay on track as the class progresses. The online course is scheduled just like a face-to-face class that meets twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes each session. Plan at least 2 to 4 hours a day to study and complete the assignments for this class. Business Law is not an easy subject to master. While some chapter topics are fairly straight-forward, others are highly subjective, complicated by public policy and sprinkled with judiciary decisions which often create “social” laws - instead of applying stare decisis, legislatively initiated statutes, and/or the United States Constitution. Thus, the student who is looking to make their life easier - and to learn something in the process - should adhere to the suggested schedule provided in the Syllabus and the Assignment Schedule . Starting on page 5 in the Syllabus , under “More Information You need to Know”, topics A through D cover the other aspects of the course including (1) how the chapter exams are set up, (2) the importance of the Assignment Board , and (3) the Grading Scale . Apologies for all the “words”. LOTS of reading is one of the “givens” of on-line learning! SYLLABUS
