Enter Edo | PBS", 2017). The “Japan Memoirs of a Secret Empire”presents a series of changes that led to present-day Japan.Japan gained open trade through the demands of Commodore Perry in 1853. Perry, onbehalf of the USA government, demanded japan to enter into business with the westerncountries. The two countries signed a treaty in 1854, which brought more foreign currency inJapan, thus disrupting the monetary system. Through the trade disruptions, the Shogunate failed,and there was a new centralized government in Japan.
