Postan assessment of whether the client is mastering the stage of identity. Identify the areas that shouldbe addressed in an intervention based on his or her developmental stage. Describe how you might address those areas.Brady is a 15 year old male who has been evaluated to show below average intelligence and emotional functioning with feelings of fear, low self-esteem, and lack of interest in school (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). At 15, Brady would be in Erikson’s stage of identity vs role confusion, but due to his mother’s death in the previous stage, it seems that Brady may have stalled in development. Two good assessment strategies with adolescents are using the systems perspective and a strengths-based approach (Springer & Powell, 2013). This allows the social worker to see how the “system” affects the child as well as giving the child “strength” to open upabout their side of the story on the issue. In Erikson’s fifth stage, the child should be gaining a better understanding of their own selves and creating an identity for themselves (Sprouts, 2017).
