Date: November 10, 2011 To: General Detrick, Army Liaison to President’s Science Advisory Committee From: Gloria Appiah-Kubi Subject: Potential Weaponization of Ebola General Detrick, I am glad you received my intelligence report and I am grateful that you responded in such a quick manner. It was a good decision to bring this case to the chair of the President’s Science Advisory Committee. I write to you with news that I have identified the group of illnesses as viral hemorrhagic fevers. Though four distinct virus families cause VHFs, (arenaviruses (Lassa), filoviruses (Ebola), bunyaviruses, and flaviviruses), the bioterror agent used by Dr. Evil is Ebola. Ebola first emerged in 1976 in Zaire, now the Republic of Congo in Africa – with 318 reported human cases and 280 reported deaths. In 1989, there was a widely publicized outbreak in Reston, VA. The most recent reported death caused by Ebola occurred in May 2011 in Uganda (CDC). Ebola, like other the other three agents of viral hemorrhagic fevers, has a number of
