Gen Path Exam 3 SG 1. Nearly all cases of invasive SCC arise from precursor epithelial changes associated with HPV. 2. HPC is the most important agent in cervical oncogenesis 3. Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN): Cervical carcinoma is preceded by a precancerous lesion that can be confined to the mucosal lining of the cervix. 4. Precancerous lesion is dysplastic: Dysplasia (disordered growth) 5. Endometrial hyperplasia generally results from excess exposure to estrogen (endogenous or exogenous). a. Risk factors include: anovulatory cycles, obesity, hormone intake, polycystic ovarian syndrome, estrogen producing ovarian tumors. 6. 4 Basic categories of ovarian neoplasms (benign and malignant): a. surface epithelial tumors b. germ cell tumors c. sex-cord-stromal tumors d. metastases (5-10% of tumors, unilateral or bilateral) 7. Risk factors of Breast carcinoma a. Delayed child bearing b. Long duration btw menarche and menopause c. Atypical proliferative lesions d. Family hx of breast cancer in a 1 st degree relative (particularly if the Ca was multifocal or premenopausal) 8. Penile neoplasms are all associated with HPV infection 9. Male consequence of poor local hygiene in uncircumcised males 10. Penile lesions are all associated with HPV infection 11. Testicular tumors occur with increased frequency in undescended testis and in males with gonadal dysgenesis. a. Peak incidence between 20-34 years of age b. In 9 5% of testicular tumors, germ cells are the source and the rest arise from stromal cells c. Germ cell tumors may be composed of one histologic pattern or mixed patterns 12. Prostatic Adenocarcinoma: a. Common in older men ( 65-75 y.o) b. More common in American blacks than Caucasians c. Clinical Presentation: c.i. Asymptomatic c.ii.
