Figure 1: Spectrum of a steady state vowel. (a) Is the spectrum provided in Figure 1 an example of narrowband or wideband analysis? Please explain your answer. (b) What is the fundamental frequency of the speaker? Is the speaker most likely a male or female? (c) Assume a rectangular analysis window was used to obtain the spectrum in Figure 1. What is the duration of the window in seconds? (d) Table 1 provides average formant frequencies for a number of steady state vowels for male and female speakers. Based on your answer from part b , which of the vowels does the spectrum in Figure 1 most likely correspond to? 1
