633 Case 3 Description After graduating from university, Robin joined a Fortune 500 Company that boasted “family friendly policies.” Robin was a fast tracker who competed and advanced to a mid-level management position at the same pace as other male fast trackers. Then Robin started a family, took maternity leave, and began working an 80 percent flexible schedule; but she still accomplished the same objectives as managers who worked full-time. However, Robin was not selected for upper-level management positions and soon realized she hit a glass ceiling. As other fast trackers continued advancing, Robin quit her job and started her own firm. Diagnosis The major problem in this case is that the company claims to have a family-friendly policy, but the policy is either not adequately enforced, or the policy was never meant to be enforced. Robin believes that she has been treated in a less than equitable manner after taking advantage of the company’s policies.
