BA 638 Assignment 11.3 Title: Severance? Norm Worthington was a 25-year employee of a mid-sized trucking company in the southeastern United States. Norm was the Operations Manager for the company, whose main business involved the transport of pine trees. Norm was the person who kept his company in business, working long hours and paying close attention to the details that allowed the company to remain profitable. Anytime there was a problem, morning, night or weekend, someone called Norm. During the mid-1990’s business began to slow down for the trucking company because of increasing environmental concerns in the area. Less trees were being harvested and that meant less business for the trucking company. As the company looked for ways to maintain its profit margin, it became more relaxed in its compliance with environmental laws. It also began systematically reducing employee benefits, and replacing older employees with younger employees through natural attrition. Every time an experienced employee departed
