Lec 2 Evolution: Change in characteristics of individuals over time. It results from natural selection. It is the heritable traits that result in success and survival in reproduction. it is also known as change in ALLELE FREQUENCY in population over time. Darwinian Fitness: Ability of individual to produce offspring. it is increased by adaptation . Adaptation: Heritable trait!!!! ….which increases the fitness of an individual. It increases fitness . It does not occur based on want or need of the organism. Acclimation: Change in individual phenotype that occurs as a response to environmental factors. Genetic Correlation: This is a constrain which occurs because of pleiotropy. It is when species evolve with not the best possible traits. It is a genetic constraint. Fitness trade-off: Compromise between traits. Ex: Larger birds may win fight over food but will still die because they need more food than the smaller birds. So counteracting selection is occurring here because natural selection is
