Beth White Final Project – Option 2 A book I feel that would add to the third unit is Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Although written during a different period, I believe that, as one of the most influential and popular novels from Spain, it fits in nicely with The Bacchae of Euripides and The Recognition of Shakuntala . Don Quixote is the story of a man from La Mancha, Spain who becomes obsessed with the idea of chivalry and knights. After an initial adventure that failed, he sets out on another adventure, this time bringing his sidekick Sancho Panza. While on their adventures, Don Quixote travels throughout Spain searching for the glory he believes knights possess while giving up the comforts of food and a warm place to stay. During the course of the play, it appears that Don Quixote has a mental illness and that Sancho Panza acts as the voice of reason. He fights windmills and many other evil enchantments and characters all to save a princess he intends to save. At the end of the
