Megan Wauschek EDT246 March 21, 2011 Field Assignment One During my full week in field I had many memorable experiences involving language and how reading is a language activity. I observed in a 5 th grade language arts class. There were two classes of students who had class during my time there, the first class was called an “average-level” class and the second was called a “low-level” class. In my first full week of field I was able to watch how a normal class lesson is given and how it is taken in and learned by the students. I was also able to tutor students in their language and grammar work and I was able to interview, talk to and observe students in their social settings. During my week at field, being in a language arts classroom, I was able to very clearly observe how reading is a language activity. Because the OAA tests are coming up in the fifth grade, during this week the lessons were focused on reading comprehension and writing portions of the test. On my favorite day the teacher broke up the class into groups, a group of 5-6 students came with me and a group of 5-6 students were grouped with my partner. In these groups we read a short story and the students had to answer
