Basic Chronology Bronze Age: A Mycenaean megaron stood on the hill and a Cyclopean circuit wall of fortifications was built Mid 6th Century: Temple to Athena Polias erected and then the “Old Temple” (Archaios Naos) is built Construction of another temple was occurring when the Persians sack Athens in 480 BCE and destroy the temple Major temples rebuilt under Pericles in the Golden Age of Athens, 460-430 BCE Parthenon, built from 447-432 was a collaboration of the most eminent artists and architects: Phidias planned the sculpture and Iktinus and Kallikrates designed the building Most of the other monuments (Erechtheon, Propylaea, and Temple of Athena Nike) constructed during Nicias’ Peace after the Peloponnesian Wars c. 421-415 BCE
