Jonathan Grant Leslie Brown Critical Writing 8/26/08 Entertainment and Reality The majority of humans in the United States are influenced by the aspects of their environment. It comes to no surprise that the black communities struggle when the popularity of hip-hop music is thriving. The youth in the black community may get a misconception about certain images and ideals from their favorite artists, and this idea shows in their actions. The negative images in hip-hop promote some of the worst elements about life, especially to the black youth. But who is to blame these youth when the very society the live in teaches them no better? The stereotypes and images do affect the black community to some degree, but at some point, it is an individual’s responsibility to understand the difference between entertainment and reality. If some of the absurd language and images of hip-hop had a target, black teens would be at the top of the list. In our communities today, there is an obvious absence of any progressive
