Primary emphasis is placed on spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. Advanced techniques are presented for use in data analysis and decision making. Students will be expected to demonstrate mastery of these techniques in a hands-on environment. COURSE MATERIALS Required New Perspectives on Microsoft® Excel® 2010: Comprehensive ISBN 978-0-538- 74291-7 New Perspectives on Microsoft® Office PowerPoint® 2010, Brief ISBN 978-0-538- 75374-6 New Perspectives on Microsoft® Access 2010, Brief ISBN 978-0-538-79849-5 SAM 2010 Assessment, Training, and Projects v2.0 (online training and testing) The above books may be purchased from the campus bookstore or from the following website: http://www.cengagebrain.com/micro/tsucis1323 If you buy a bundle of NEW books, then all four required elements will be included. If you buy USED books, or purchase the books separately, then you must purchase SAM 2010 separately (either at the bookstore as a separate purchase, or online from the publisher at http://www.cengagebrain.com/shop/isbn/9781111669362 ) The DVDs that come with the new books are NOT required NOTE: The SAM2010 access code MUST be obtained by each student on an individual basis. CIS 1323 Course Syllabus : Keefe The class will complete registration for the SAM 2010 product early in the course. Please do not register early without consulting with the instructor. . CREDIT BY EXAMINATION OPTION Testing Services (phone: 245-2276, lower level of Commons Dining Hall) administers a test-out option for this course requirement (credit for the course requirement is given but GPA is not affected.) Fees for testing will be assessed at test registration and also at test time. The test-out exam will be oriented to Office 2010. If you are interested in the credit by examination option, contact the Department of Computer Information Systems and Quantitative Methods (phone: 245-2291, McCoy Hall 404) for further information. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Develop proficiency in the use of electronic spreadsheets as decision making tools 2. Develop proficiency in the use of electronic databases as decision making tools 3.
