MKT 291 Presentation- Jon Miller- Executive Vice President NBC Sports Graduate of Miami- 1978 Worked as a local salesmen for NBC 1985- moved over and sold network sports 1988 left sales, and moved into programming development (sports marketing, sports promotion) Saw so much change over the last 22 years. No cell phones, no internet, just CBS, NBC, and ABC. No direct tv, satellite. Business model has changed drastically Buying a property( NFl, Kentucky Derby, Notre Dame sports), pay a license fee, have production costs (talent, equipment, ect). Go out and sell it. Spread is what you pay for it and what you sell it as. Forced to change (Ipad example) everyone in the advertising business will have one within two years Got out of the NBA after they haf the glory years (Jordan and Magic) they were in from 1991- 2002 and the NBA has lost their touch. Teams weren’t what they were supposed to be and lost their touch, went over to ESPN. NBA is desperate to come back to network TV, but its just a commodity, lost its specialness. 350 hours are franchise hours (Ryder cup, NFL, Notre dame) pay rights fees for,
