Nicholas Connolly BLS 465 Dr. Meyers 08/29/2011 Jonestown Holocaust After reading the Jonestown Holocaust article the only thing that comes to mind is that it is a mix between a ponzi scheme and the show Lost . In the beginning, Jones does everything right, he preaches to the choir, promises change, shows his legitimacy, just to gather more and more people and their money. Then slowly, as he feels his power grow to a climatic point he starts to put himself before everyone else and his true motives and ideals take over. He had a plan for everything, how he was going to do it and when the plans were going to be played out. The reason I say it reminds me of a ponzi scheme is because if someone described Madoff’s plans they would sound very similar to how I just described Jones’ plans. As for my Lost analogy, taking a group of people to an unknown, non protected town in Guyana, and manipulate young people to follow every word that comes out of your mouth seems pretty accurate to some aspects of the show. Jones did three things very well. He manipulated, stole, and took over power and
