Nicholas Connolly IDS-159 VB Dr. Fischer 3/15/2010 The Celluloid Closet Paper The mainstream media has had an enormous impact on the GBLT community for almost 70 years. Through movies, television shows, commercials, and magazines the media has shown many different sides of how members of the GBLT are portrayed. These depictions have been both positive and negative, but regardless of their depiction, they have played a significant role in people’s lives. A second outlook is how the GBLT view themselves, which can be very controversial subject because every person has a different opinion of how they want to be seen by not only themselves, but by others as well. These two questions are very important because they help outsiders understand more about how the GBLT has been looked at and treated over the years and helps members of the GBLT get their voice out to those who are unfamiliar with their world. The mainstream media has had an extreme impact on American society and they used mostly movies to get their messages across.
