Nicholas Connolly IDS 159- VB Dr. Fischer January 22 nd , 2010 Christmas The Nacirema people have a very interesting tradition celebrated only once a year. They call this tradition Christmas and it is on December 25 th because that is the day their savior called SuseJ was born. Christmas is a highly anticipated tradition because of all the warmth and joy that it brings to the people of Nacirema. They celebrate the birth of SuseJ , the central figure of the Nacirema’s religion. SuseJ , the son of their god, was said to be born to cure the people of their sicknesses. His birth was highly anticipated, which is why the tradition is as well. Because Christmas is so highly anticipated, the people of Nacirema decorate not only their village, but also their own home. Shades of green and red are scattered all around and some even put up baby suns that light up their homes and village. Another way people decorate is by going into the forest and cutting down mini sized trees to put in their homes. They put ornaments on the tree, which consist of personal belongings and
