Marketing Strategy Unit 1 Complete 1. At its core, marketing is meant to facilitate exchanges. As marketing managers, the most prevalent view we may take of exchange is that of our product for our customers’ money. What other exchanges may occur between marketers and customers? Marketing ideas began during the Industrial Revolution, a period that spanned from the 18 th clear into the 19th century; a time of change and business innovations motivated by science and technology ( Rahtz, Sirgy, Grzeskowiak, & Lee, 2020). For instance, Coca Cola was first introduced in 1880 as a medicine that claimed to be able to revive and sustain a person, as well as cure headaches ( Pizzolato, 2020). However, in an effort to build the business and the brand loyalty by the 1920’s Coca Cola had gone from a medicine to a refreshment known as the “fun food,” and as a result Coca Cola has become one the largest companies in the world Pizzolato, N. (2020). Marketing to me was newspaper advertisements and commercials enticing you to purchase products, and services. Of course this is what you see as a consumer. However, you quickly learn that marketing goes hand in hand with many business functions such as: research, human resources, operations, accounting and production (Ferrell and Hartline, 2014). The thing with marketing, just like anything else comes change. Marketing has to continue change in order to keep up with the changing faces, taste, wants and needs of consumers ( Kemper, Ballantine, & Hall, 2020) . The whole exchange of just products and money between marketers and consumers has changed over the last 20 years to offering the exchange of services, physical goods and information due to online markets and e-commerce (Ferrell and Hartline, 2014). I can remember like yesterday, the only way you learned about products, services or received information was on television via commercials and newspapers. Now, we can order products, schedule services and get information on the go through our mobile devices or computers. Marketers have gotten very savvy by drowning our emails, Facebook pages, twitter accounts and text with sales offers for products and services as well when you open google it automatically gives you information on what’s going on in the world ( Prabhakar, & Umair, 2020).
