Ben Jasper Bio 102 Lab 3 Using a Dichotomous key to Identify leaves I. I ntroduction – In this lab our objective was to use a dichotomous key, to identify five different types of leaves. The Purpose for conducting this experiment was to get each student to practice making close observations that will guide him/her in problem solving skills and becoming a more observant person. II. Methods – The procedure for this lab was quite a simple one. After our group obtained a lab packet and received supplemental instructions we did the following for each card: 1. Recorded the number at the top of each leaf card and left appropriate space for student answer records. 2. Used the dichotomous key by starting off with statement 1 and 1A, and by looking at our leaf card we figured out which set of observations obtained to our card. Then we wrote down which one pertained to our particular leaf. ( Note : just the 1 or 1A.) 3. From this point onward we figured out which sets of observations obtained to our leaf and followed the instructions for each set of
