THEATER APPRECIATION 9/14/11 -THE AUDIENCE Your generation is the most sophisticated audience in the history of mankind. Why? You’ve been exposed to an unprecedented amount of storytelling media. A. 1-2 yrs old telly-tubbies B. 2-4 yrs old Barney C. Preschool Sesame street D. CHANNEL FOR INFANTS BabyFirstTV So as an audience members you are strongly familiar with most stories want to ‘cut to the chase; prefer short, concise stories You are sophisticated as an audience, but LACK attention span. What happens if you’re watching TV alone and a funny/interesting thing comes on? “Hey you gotta see this!!!” The experience becomes enhances when you share it with someone. How to watch a show? Two basic approaches: 1. Disengaged and disinterested with the show, the show is watching you. 2. Actively, engaged in the action, asking yourself questions, what happens next? How to behave at shows? -Theater Etiquette (codes of behavior)
