Alex Fafara Another Castle We march, barefoot across the blistering sand. The Princess is in another castle, Luigi, my brother says, And we have to save her. The sun beats down on our bare backs with heated persistence. Another castle. Past the tall, vibrant mushrooms, we search. Past the dozing natives of this foreign land, we press onwards. He looks at me, and I look at him And I already know. She’s in there, Luigi, my brother says, Let’s go and save her. We step into the water, numbingly refreshing. Again I look at him. It’s time to fight. We run into the oncoming rush, powering through creatures. Look out behind you! For every enemy vanquished, ten more fill its place. We punch with all our might, hold fast against the sweeping current, brace ourselves for the impact, and repeat. I fall, and time stops. I can’t breathe. He pulls me out, sputtering; the salt on my tongue parches me. We can do this.
