Field Observation #2 Description The class reviews the class trip rules for technology use, including don’t bring iPods, video games, or cell phones, unless they are being used as a camera, and only a camera. We then review the even problems for the homework. The teacher reads off the answers, saying “Regrouping alert” every time mixed numbers are being added or subtracted. She shows an example using one-tenth, four-fifths, and pizza slices to round and to show how to borrow. One student says that he doesn’t understand when the teacher explains how to subtract two and four-fifths from four and one-tenth. The teacher responds by saying, “I’m gunna see if you understand.” She puts a different problem on the board, and tells students to stand in the back right of the room if they think the problem requires regrouping, and to stand in the back left if it does not.
