Connects doctor directly to doctors, hospitals, drug companies, medical suppliers, health insurance a. Used to have to do this via phone. b. It expands source of information c. Also faster to get a response ii. Doctors will obtain current medical information online a. Doctors are slow in technology pick-up b. Why? a. Ease of use (too complicated) b. Not time to learn to use these units c. Technology breaks, doctors cannot afford unreliability II. Patients and the internet A. Major sources of medical information for patients i. Doctors no longer source about disease B. Changes doctor-patient relationship i. Patients are primed when they do go to doctor ii. They have their own source of information – control over themselves iii. In an ideal world they will work together about treatment iv. However no regulation, not all true/reliable v. How to tell if website is unreliable
