Scapin Plot Summary Two young men known as Octave and Leandre have fallen in love with two women, Hyacinthe and Zerbinette. This has transpired in secret while their fathers were away on an out of country trip. Quite some time ago, Octave met Hyacinthe when she was in mourning and tears over her dead mother’s body, this led to their immediately falling in love, and in no small part due to Hyacinthe’s insistence, they got married. Leandre met Zerbinette at a gypsy camp (Gypsies are the English name for a tribe of nomadic people who came to Europe in the 14th or 15th century from India and lived and maintained a migratory way of life chiefly in Europe and the U.S. They had a terrible reputation for stealing children). Leandre had grown up with the gypsies after having been stolen from her biological parents. When their fathers return unexpectedly, the sons beg Scapin; Leandre’s servant and an accomplished con artist, to help them (the fathers are entirely against a union such as the
